Document & presentation AI Two products compared Free plans available
Document and presentation AI compared — Notion AI and Gamma are not competitors
This is for teams trying to cut the time that goes into writing reports and building materials. We separate what each product actually solves, so that by the end you can judge whether your organisation’s bottleneck is organising knowledge or producing materials — and set the order of adoption accordingly.
The short answer
If meeting notes, plans and working documents are scattered across personal machines and messaging apps, and context disappears whenever someone changes role, Notion AI comes first. It is strong at gathering material in one place and then answering questions from within it. Conversely, if the information is already organised but half a day vanishes every time someone has to build a deck, Gamma produces an immediate effect, because it delivers a full draft in minutes. The two are not substitutes but a sequence. Where knowledge accumulates and where you present that knowledge to others are different problems — and since both have free tiers, a month of use is enough to reveal which is your bottleneck.
At a glance
| Item | Notion AI | Gamma |
| Strength | Documents, data and wiki in one workspace; answers, summaries and drafts grounded in accumulated internal material | Draft decks, documents and web pages from a single prompt, with theme-based design applied automatically |
| Who it suits | Organisations with scattered material and heavy handover losses; planning and business-support teams building a knowledge system | Sales, marketing and planning staff who frequently produce proposals and reports; small teams |
| Pricing model | Free; Plus ~$10/user/mo | Free; Plus ~$8/mo (annual) |
| Korean support | Korean interface, and Korean-language writing and summarising, are all at a usable working standard | Korean copy generation works, but auto-placed layouts sometimes need line-break and character-count adjustment, so assume a final tidy-up |
Pricing is quoted exactly as each product publishes it. Note that Notion is quoted per user and Gamma on annual billing, so the units differ when comparing.
Notion AI — making scattered material something you can ask
The value of Notion AI is not explained by the write-it-for-me feature alone. The real difference emerges once company material has accumulated in one place. When meeting notes, proposals, operating manuals and project records live in the same workspace, “how was this decided in the first half of last year?” becomes a question you put to the documents rather than to a colleague. That is where it cuts the time an organisation loses to absences and handovers.
Writing itself gets faster too. Organising meeting content into decisions and follow-up actions, summarising long material, structuring a draft — all of it continues inside the document editor. Combined with the database features, project status boards and documents sit in the same place, so state management and record-keeping never separate.
The organisations that benefit most are those with frequent staff changes. If the same questions repeat every time someone moves, and the answers live only in somebody’s inbox, the loss compounds monthly. Gathering material into one place is tedious work, but once past a threshold, the share of questions resolved by search rises noticeably.
The weakness comes from operations, not the tool. Freedom is very high, so adopting it without rules produces endless pages and a workspace that cannot even be searched. Without designing document structure and permissions early, it commonly ends as “a wiki everyone migrated to and nobody uses”. The cost of migrating existing material is also easy to underestimate. And building presentation material is not this product’s territory — it makes documents well, but it is not a tool for making slides.
Gamma — removing the distance to a first draft
Gamma has a far narrower purpose, and is correspondingly clearer. Describe in a sentence what you want to build, and out comes a draft with slide structure and design already resolved. It removes the stretch that actually consumes the most time in practice: facing a blank screen and stacking up from slide one. Anyone who builds material frequently feels the effect on day one.
The output is different in character from traditional slide tools too. Because it is built around scrolling in a browser, it is easy to share by link and edits appear immediately. That suits ways of working where external proposals and introductory material go out as links and you track whether they were opened. It can also produce documents and simple web pages, which for a small team means a way of making external material without a designer.
Speed has a secondary effect as well. When a draft appears in minutes, team discussion moves from “how should we build this?” to “is this the right structure?”. Instead of spending time on the shape of the material, people argue about its content — and in practice that shift affects output quality more than you would expect.
The limits run in two directions. First, this is not a place to store knowledge. However many pieces you produce, your organisation’s material never becomes organised as a result. Second, formal settings need tidying. Documents with a fixed internal template and required order of argument — executive reports, board material — are hard to use as auto-generated, and layouts can shift when exporting to a conventional presentation format. Slides containing Korean text sometimes need another pass for line breaks and character counts. As a draft generator it is powerful; expect a finisher and you will be disappointed.
How to choose
Adopting this in a Korean company
Document products take internal information in directly, which adds one more review item than other categories. Beyond contracts and support, you have to look at information handling standards.
English-only contracts
Terms and data processing clauses are often provided only in English. Because internal documents and customer information go into this tool, run an information security review alongside.
Foreign payment and tax invoices
Per-user products change the invoice every time headcount changes. A route with won-denominated billing and tax invoices removes that monthly documentation work.
Support in another time zone
Permission and account transfer problems cluster around reorganisations. If support is English ticket-based, build the response delay into the schedule in advance.
Korean-language onboarding
For document tools, conveying “how we use this here” matters more than explaining features. Without that guide in Korean, the tool is abandoned within months.
SurfingBear Tools handles adoption of these two products, and other international AI tools, as domestic contracting, won-denominated billing, tax invoice issuance and Korean-language onboarding. Setting out document structure, permission design and a draft of internal usage rules in Korean tends to affect real utilisation more than anything else. We do not claim official partner or reseller status for any product, and because what can be contracted differs by product, we set it out exactly as it is during consultation.
If we were to recommend an order of work, it is this. First, write down — roughly is fine — how much time your people spent over the past two months finding material versus making material. Those numbers make the tool choice for you. Then move one team and one workflow onto the free tier for two weeks, and keep only the side where recovered time is demonstrable as a candidate for a paid plan. Those two weeks give a far more accurate basis than a meeting spent comparing feature lists.
Frequently asked questions
If we adopt only one, which should it be?
Judge by where the bottleneck is. Losing time finding material, Notion AI; losing time making material, Gamma. If it is unclear, both have free tiers — run each in one team for two weeks and compare recovered time. Faster than another meeting.
Can we export to conventional presentation file formats?
Export is possible, but a web-based structure can shift in layout when moved to slide dimensions. For reports with strict internal formatting, include a final tidy-up step in the schedule.
Can we upload confidential internal documents?
The principle is to define in advance what may be uploaded at each information classification. Highly sensitive material — contracts, HR, customer personal data — needs its own standard, and we check data storage location and processing clauses per product during the consultation.
How do we stop it being abandoned after adoption?
The most effective method is narrowing the scope. Rather than company-wide simultaneous adoption, move one team’s workflow across completely and expand once that team is a success story. Simply naming a usage-rules document and one responsible person greatly reduces the odds of abandonment.
