Choosing design and image AI tools — start with the licence
What separates tools here most is not output quality but licensing. Producing something good you cannot use commercially achieves nothing.
Licence first Brand consistency Real product list
The short answer
The order is licence, then brand consistency, then output quality. Start from quality and you usually end up walking back from the licence.
Second is brand consistency. Producing 100 images consistently in your brand style is worth far more in practice than one excellent image.
Candidates by use
| Use | What to look at | Real products |

| General design production | Template breadth and collaboration | Canva · Microsoft Designer |
| Combined image and video generation | Feature breadth and upscaling | Freepik |
| Website design and deployment | The path from design to live | Framer |
| Logos and brand kits | Output ownership and trademark viability | Looka · Kittl |
| Professional creative | Compatibility with existing workflows | Adobe Firefly |
Five things to check in the licence
How brand consistency actually happens
Tool features alone do not hold consistency. Three things work in practice: an approved style reference, a shared set of reused prompts, and a pre-publication check.
Sharing the prompt set matters most. The same tool driven by everyone’s own prompts produces scattered output, and scattered output collected together looks like no brand at all.
Keep the checklist short — colour, typeface, logo usage, prohibited wording. Four items catch most of it.
Frequently asked questions
Can we use free-tool images in advertising?
It varies by product, and by tier within a product. Confirm commercial use is explicitly permitted, and for a campaign of any size get it in writing.
Do we need this if we have designers?
It is division of labour, not replacement. Variant generation, background work and resizing shrink, and designer time moves to concept and final judgement.
Can we upload our logo?
Check first whether uploads are used for training. If that is unconfirmed, keep brand assets out and start by passing colour and typeface rules in the prompt instead.
How do we compare output quality?
On your real work. Regenerate five images you actually produced last month under the same conditions and the differences become obvious.
