Choosing commerce AI tools — your platform decides first
In commerce the constraint is set before you start choosing: which storefront platform you run. The platform decides half the shortlist.
Platform constraint Measuring conversion Real product list
The short answer
Commerce AI attaches in three places — product content (photography, detail pages), discovery (search, recommendations), and customer communication. Different tools, and different ways of measuring.
The advantage of this category is that the effect shows up as numbers immediately: conversion rate, search exit rate, add-to-cart rate. Which makes recording your current numbers before adoption especially important.
Candidates by use
| Use | What to look at | Real products |
|---|---|---|
| Korean storefront and detail pages | Integration with the local platform | Cafe24 (Edibot) |
| Operating a foreign platform | Whether it is built into the platform | Shopify Sidekick |
| Product search and discovery | Korean search quality and typo handling | Algolia |
| Search, recommendations and personalisation | Integration with your existing data | Bloomreach · Vue.ai |
| Product photography generation | Commercial use terms | Photoroom · Draph Art |
| Brand-tone content generation | Tone consistency at volume | Typeface |
What to check
How to measure the effect
Record three numbers before adopting: exit rate after search, detail-page to cart conversion, and the time it takes to list a product.
Product content tools show up most clearly in the third. Whether listing 100 products got faster is not arguable.
Search and recommendation tools are judged on the first two — but seasonality and promotions confound them, so compare year-on-year for the same period, or run an A/B split. Do not judge on the first month alone.
Frequently asked questions
Are AI-generated product photos a compliance risk?
They can be if the result misrepresents the product. Background replacement and lighting correction are usually low risk; retouching that changes colour, material or size is best avoided. Where it is borderline, supply the original photo alongside.
Does changing search tools affect SEO?
On-site search is usually not indexed, so the direct effect is small. But if your search result pages are indexed, review URL changes and indexing together.
Is it pointless with a small catalogue?
Search and recommendations do little with few products. Content generation, on the other hand, cuts listing time regardless of catalogue size, so that comes first at small scale.
Can we mix a Korean platform with foreign tools?
You can, but verify the integration. If product data does not move automatically, manual work appears — and it sometimes exceeds the benefit.
